2023 WA RURAL HEALTH EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Laura Black has been working as a Nurse Practitioner for more than a decade, serving the Westonia community at the Westonia Shire surgery, conducting home visits and hosting weekly primary health clinics.
Laura is a well-regarded member of the community, carrying out weekly home visits to the elderly and vulnerable. She also works as a patient liaison, providing support for visiting GP Dr Olga Ward and other health providers.
Patients have commended Laura for her caring and trustworthy nature, persistence, and attention to detail in helping to improve the overall wellbeing of the Westonia community. She has worked tirelessly as the liaison between local patients and health practitioners, as well as organising seminars to help the region’s ageing population continue to live independently.
Laura’s support to the local community means patients do not have to trek up to 50kms to the nearest GP for wound care, minor illnesses, immunisation, and assessments.
