Honorary Freeman of the Shire of Westonia

Honorary Freeman of the Shire of Westonia — the highest accolade Council can bestow on a community member.

This prestigious title is awarded only on rare and exceptional occasions and recognises those who have made an extraordinary contribution to the life and spirit of our Shire through voluntary service, leadership, and dedication. It is a way to celebrate and preserve the legacy of those whose efforts have helped shape Westonia into the vibrant and supportive community it is today.

What is a Freeman of the Shire?

An Honorary Freeman of the Shire is someone who has demonstrated:

  • Long-standing residency and connection with the Shire (typically 20 years or more).

  • Extensive and distinguished voluntary service that goes beyond local government involvement, including work with community organisations, sporting clubs, service groups and more.

  • Leadership and impact that clearly stands above others in the community.

  • A level of contribution that would make them worthy of recognition under the Australian Honours system.
