Gordon Reid Conservation of Natural Heritage Grant

The Shire of Westonia recently receive a Lotterywest Grant to purchase a Chatfield Ezy Planter 2000 tree planter for local landholders to hire for the purpose of using it in revegetation activites to address salinity, land degradation and biodiversity issues in the landscape.

The Chatfield Ezy Planter 2000 tree planter will provide the landholders with a superior machine to utilise in revegetation activities undertaken every year to address the three key environmental issues of our area; salinity, land degradation and biodiversity loss. The Shire of Westonia is working together with the local landholders and surrounding Shires to plan and implement projects to actively address these important issues.

As the Shire currently hires out an out-dated tree planter, it is envisaged that with the purchase of a higher quality machine, which the Shire will hire out, more landholders will be encouraged to participate in revegetation activities. Income generated from hire fees will be used to contribute to ongoing maintenance costs, which are to be met by the Shire of Westonia.
