Australian Government - Community Water Grants
Australian Government - Community Water Grants Thanks to the efforts of Sara Bright NRM Officer, the Shire of Westonia was successful in receiving a total of $26,520.00 from the Federal Government’s Community Water Grants program for two community projects.
The first project involves the installation of pool covers at the Westonia Swimming Pool to minimise the amount of water lost through evaporation. Each year the Westonia Swimming Pool loses about 800,000 litres through evaporation only. It is anticipated that once the pool blanket system is installed the amount of scheme water lost to evaporation will be significantly reduced.
$22,220.00 was received from Community Water Grants to contribute towards the purchase and installation of the pool covers, with the Shire also contributing a significant cash component to the project. The Pool Cover system is currently being constructed by Elite Pool Covers and features the finest quality “super bubble” blanket material with an automated roller system, allowing for quick installation and removal of the blankets. It is anticipated that the pool blanket system will be installed within the next two weeks.
The shire also received $4,300.00 from Community Water Grants to purchase and install a 13,000L water tank and pressure pump at the Shire Office. The rain water tank will be used as a back up water source for the nursery, as well as an alternative water source for the gardens which surround the nursery.
